“I never played by the rules, I never really cared / My nasty reputation takes me everywhere.” The lyrics of“Youth Gone Wild,” by Skid Row rang true for so many in the early 1990s. Formed in 1986 in Toms River, New Jersey, Skid Row sold 20 million albums worldwide by the end of 1996. The band originally consisted of Rachel Bolan, Dave Sabo, Scotti Hill, Rob Affuso, and Sebastian Bach. Bach replaced Matt Fallonafter the band spotted Bach singing at rock photographer Mark Weiss’s wedding at the age of 18, and the members asked him to join in early 1987.
“Youth Gone Wild” can be found on Skid Row’s eponymous debut album, released on January 24, 1989. After being noticed by Doc McGhee(Kiss, Bon Jovi, Mötley Crüe) Skid Row signed with Atlantic Records and began recording its debut. The album peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 and was certified 5x platinum by the RIAA in 1995 for shipping five million copies in the United States. It generated four singles:“Youth Gone Wild,”“18 and Life,”“I Remember You” and“Piece of Me,” all which had a music video and were in rotation on MTV.
